We come together on The G-Listed every Sunday for a soulful tradition called Super Soul Sunday. It’s a celebration of music that moves the spirit and sets the tone for whatever the week might bring. Each week, I share a curated mixtape of house, soul, R&B, neo-soul, hip-hop, jazz, lo-fi, city pop, gospel, amapiano, or afrobeat—sounds that resonate as the perfect backdrop for workdays, winding down, or vibing with friends who share the same love for good music.
This isn’t just about music; it’s about creating a space where rhythms and melodies become the soundtrack to our lives. From uplifting gospel harmonies to the smooth grooves of neo-soul, these mixes bring the essence of joy, reflection, and connection into every moment. Whether you’re starting your day, relaxing with loved ones, or diving into creative pursuits, the tunes I share are here to complement your vibe.

This Sunday, I want to expose you to a deejay who has my fix of the funkiest soul and dance songs of the 1970s and 1980s. Think of the sounds of “More Bounce To The Ounce” by Zapp, “Fire” by Ohio Players, and “Cutie Pie” and “Don’t Fight The Feeling” by One Way. We enjoy all those songs at our family reunions and picnics. DJ Upper Hand Keem put together his “Pops & Uncles Old School Favorites Vol. 1.” It has all of the funkiest grooves of the late 1970s and early 1980s that you danced at the family functions and the throwback-themed parties. Check out this mix below.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s mixtape and found something that resonates with your spirit. Music connects us, and I’m always curious to hear how these sounds landed with you. Your feedback means a lot, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts—did a particular track stand out, or did the vibe remind you of something special?
If you have recommendations for similar music, I’d love to hear them! Connect with me on Twitter or drop your suggestions in the comments section.
